Training will give your dog the confidence he needs to interact with his world in an acceptable manner. You will strengthen your relationship with your dog if you undertake this training yourself.
When crate training an indoor dog or puppy, you may try some tricks. If the dog doesn’t want to go inside the crate, put a rawhide bone in there and shut the door. If a dog sees something in the crate that they want, they will desire to enter it. After they enter the crate, be sure to give them love and attention to let them know they did something to please you.
When you have gotten a new dog and you are working on training a key thing to remember is that you must always enforce the commands that you give your dog. Do not let the dog ignore you, and do not say the command over and over. If you are not going to be strong enough to enforce what you are saying, you might as well not waste your time.
When teaching a puppy basic commands, start with ‘sit’. This is the easiest one for a dog to master. Hold his favorite snack just above his nose, and firmly say ‘sit’. Most dogs will instinctively sit down at this point. Offer him the treat and don’t forget to praise him profusely. If he doesn’t sit, gently push his rear end towards the floor. After he has been sitting for a few seconds, give him the treat, and like before, remember to praise him.
As you begin working with your dog on their training program, make sure to pay close attention to their diet. Much like humans, a dog gets their fuel from what they eat each day. Having a diet that is not nutritionally sound can affect a dog’s behavior and make training more difficult.
Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. If one dog is larger than the other, it could accidentally tangle the cord around the smaller dog’s neck, causing it to become unable to breath, and possibly die.
Consider your dog’s personality as you begin your training program. Make sure to start slowly if your pet has aggressive tendencies. If you try to exert control over a dog that prefers to be dominant, your pet may react aggressively toward you and derail your training plans.
You should make sure to eat your own meal first before feeding your dog. This shows your dog that you are leader of the pack and helps establish your dominance. Your dog will be much more likely to follow your other commands if he or she knows that you are the boss because you eat first.
