How To Train Any Dog Any Time

There are many schools of thought on the best ways to train your dog. Whether you believe your dog should be allowed to sleep with you in your bed or if you think that your dog is a pet that should stay off the furniture, you can teach your dog basic obedience and commands.

If you have gotten a new dog or puppy, you should work on training them right away. If they are going to be indoor dogs, you can start crate training them . This prevents bathroom accidents or your items being chewed on. Start off with the right sized crate, so that they have enough room in the crate to move around a bit.

If your dog is misbehaving, try to determine why. It is important to work out why your dog is doing what it does. Knowing the reason for poor behavior can make training significantly easier. It is far more difficult to correct an action that you do not fully understand the reasoning behind.

Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. You need to replace that with a designated chew toy. If your puppy seems to be suffering a lot from teething, a frozen washcloth to chew on can give him some relief.

Create a bridge between the dog’s response to a command and the reward for success. By saying a bridge word such as “yes” or “good”, you will reinforce that the behavior is acceptable and the reward will follow. Keep using this bridge word even after training is complete to be consistent with your pet.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn’t too hard with a few treats in your hand. First, have your pet to lay down. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog’s head to the opposite side. Your dog is probably going to follow the treat in your hand with his nose, which means he will rollover his whole body. While rolling, use your vocal command. Don’t get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he’ll be the star of the dog park!

When doing early leash training, select a nylon leash about six feet longer. A leash made of leather or other heavy material will drag on the dog’s collar even when you aren’t attempting to give a reinforcement, and can be extremely distracting for the dog. Once your dog is fully leash trained, however, leather leashes may look better and last longer than nylon ones.

Your opinion on what truly means a dog is “trained,” may differ from your neighbor, friends, or even dog training instructors. Whatever your beliefs, by training your dog to follow basic commands and to obey your instructions, you will create a happier, safer home for you, your pets, and other members of your family.
